How Marie works

Confidentiality and respect

The practice is grounded in confidentiality, a practical approach, and a calm pace that allows people to speak openly.

My story

In my adult life I benefited greatly from counselling due to personal circumstances including addiction and bereavement. Because of that experience, I was encouraged to pursue a career in counselling. I wanted to use what I had learned to help others, so I began studying and qualified as an accredited counsellor.

I opened the doors to my private clinic in 1995. In 1999, I was offered an opportunity to work with the HSE. I worked with the HSE until 2016 while continuing to run my private clinics part-time.

After retiring from the HSE, I dedicated my time fully to my professional counselling practice, which I opened in July 2018 in Kanturk, Co. Cork.

How I work

My approach is practical, person-centred, and grounded in confidentiality. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me when working with clients.

I support adults, teenagers, families, and professionals across a range of concerns, including addiction, bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationships, confidence, workplace or school bullying, and trauma-informed support.

I also provide professional supervision and I am an APCP and ACI accredited supervisor.

A little about me outside work

In my spare time I enjoy nature trails, daily meditation, reading, travelling, and time with family and friends. I am an avid sports fan and a proud supporter of Munster Rugby and Cork teams.
