Counselling can be one form of support, but it is not the only one. Sometimes what is needed is urgent help, youth support, peer support, or information for family members.

Start with the right kind of help

If there is immediate danger or a crisis, the right first step is emergency support rather than a private practice appointment.

This practice is not an emergency or crisis service.

Urgent help options

If urgent help is needed, use:

  • 112 or 999 for emergencies
  • Samaritans on 116 123
  • Pieta on 1800 247 247 or text HELP to 51444
  • the HSE urgent mental health help guidance

These are listed clearly on the Resources page.

Cork-relevant options

For people in Kanturk, Co. Cork or the wider North Cork area, useful starting points may include:

  • Jigsaw Cork for young people aged 12 to 25
  • Cork Samaritans branch information
  • Grow Mental Health group listings for Cork

General support and information

Sometimes what helps most is not urgent intervention, but clear information about what support exists and who it may suit. Services such as Aware, Shine, Grow Mental Health, and the HSE Your Mental Health information line can be useful starting points.

If you need both counselling and other support

It is common for people to use more than one support at a time. Counselling may sit alongside peer support, family support, bereavement information, or youth services.

The Resources page has been organised to make that easier to navigate.
